Zone Dictionary

There's a lot of odd slang used in the Killjoys universe so this is a quick guide to what the girl really means when she's talking about milkshakes.


A

After Party- Possibly after life or a reference to death (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)

Analogue Wars- The Analogue Wars were a fight between BLI and opposing rebels. The Girl's mother had a leadership position for the rebels/zone-runners and was turned Drac at the war's end. Dr. Death lost the use of his legs during this war. (Comics; Issue 3)

Atomic- Possibly a reference to noise levels, used in the context of listening to music or the radio (Twitter; Hot Chimp)

B

Banger Cell- Group of fighters, possibly just another name for a zone-runner group. (Comics; Issue 1)

Battle of Utah- Possibly a battle during the Wars, was considered a suicide mission. Dr. D seemed to have taken part. (Dr. D's listening party, Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Ben Alfleck- Reference to a disease (Twitter; Party Poison)

Beta Bug- Endearment in the Zones. (Comics; Issue 1)

Birthday Like- Seems to be a reference to getting naked. "Birthday Suit" (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Birthday Party- Seems to be a reference for partying in general, possibly a really out of control or wild party (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Bitch Bots- Women. (Twitter; Hot Chimp)

Black- Used as a reference to death or the dead. Ex. "The batteries are black". When used as 'blacks and whites' it is a reference to BLI's police. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola & NewsAGoGo, Comics; Issue 1)

Blaster- General term for the rayguns used in canon. (Comics; Issue 1)

Bonus Track- Special. (Comics; Issue 3)

Brand Land- Seems to be a reference to a big production or something 'brand name'/expensive. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Bug Bomb- Some sort of bomb made and used by BLI that releases knockout gas. (Comics; Issue 1)

Bullet's Embrace- Possibly a reference to moving quickly. (Album; Bulletproof Heart)

Bunny- Possibly a term of endearment for a person in the Zones. (Album; S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W)

Burner- Driver. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)


C

Cs- Another term for Carbons. (Twitter; Tommy Chow Mein)

Carbons- Monetary system of Battery City and the Zones. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Children of the Gun- People of the Zones. (Album; Destroya)

Clap- A fight. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report)

Clip- A measure of time. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Companion Droids- Androids built for the purposes of prostitution. Come in several colors of which depends on the price and activities they are built for. (Dr. Death Defying's Listening Party)

Cosmic Thrust (Radial Tubes)- A brand name for tires. (Danger Days Merchandise)

Costa Rica- Crazy, to go crazy. When something goes wrong, 'sideways'. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report, Comics)

Crash Kid- Same as Crash Queen, possibly a more gender neutral use of the term or meant to refer to the younger kids of the desert. (Comics, Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Crash Queen- Thrill seeker, daredevil, catchall for the desert dwellers. (Album; Look Alive Sunshine, Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)


D

Danger Days- Referenced in canon as the time after the Wars, the era after BLI took over. Was used in the context of 'what did you do before the danger days'. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Dead Pegasus- A brand name for gasoline/petroleum, logo seen on Party Poison's jacket. (Danger Days Merchandise, MVs; Na Na Na & Sing)

Decrease Levels- Possibly a way of saying to calm down. (Dr. Death Defying's Listening Party)

Destroya- A giant robot believed by many of Bat City's droids to be the future salvation of robotic kind. Currently buried in the sands near the Nest and was once a prototype created by BLI. A sort of religious figure to the desert, referenced in the Listening Party directly as a figure for worship. People of the Zone's may built alters for the purpose of worship. (Album; Destroya, Comics; All issues, Dr. Death Defying's Listening Party)

Devil's Got Your Number- Death sentence, indication someone is about to do something that is seen as suicidal. (Album; Save Yourself I'll Hold Them Back)

Die With Your Mask On- To die with your identity intact, to die as yourself. Comes from the fact many runners may be forced into a Draculoid mask when caught and it is seen better to die with memories intact than to become a pawn of BLI. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report)

Dr. Phizzle- A brand name out in the Zones. Makes both refreshments and hair dye. (Comics; Issue 3)

Dr. Phizzle's Jume Juice- A brand of juice. (Comics; Issue 3)

Draculoids- The mooks of BLI, sometimes shorted to Drac. Draculoids are regular people forced under a mask that causes hallucinations and brainwashing with no hope of remembering who they were. They regularly patrol the Zones. Dangerous and annoying. (Literally in everything to come out of this universe.)

Drobe- Clothing, wardrobe. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola, Comics; Issue 3)

Drop Off- Seems to be a term for trades or markets in the Zones. (Twitter; Tommy Chow Mein)

Dupe Goop- The cream cure for Flash Rash. (Comics; Issue 1)

Dust Angel- A term for those living in the zones. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Dust Darling- A term for those living in the zones. (Comics; Issue 1)

Dust Mouth- Dry mouth, lack of hydration. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Dusted- One of the four acceptable levels of being dead. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report & Goodnight Dr. Death, Twitter; Tommy Chow Mein)


E

ElectroKat- A band name, possibly for batteries. Seen to advertise in the Zones as evidenced by the symbol showing up on the back of Murder magazine. (Danger Days merchandise, MVs; Na Na Na)

Exterminator- The higher level agents for BLI. Korse is one of them. (MVs; Na Na Na, 'Art is a Weapon' trailer)


F

Fast Forward/Fast FWD- To move quickly. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Firefight- Battle using rayguns. (Album; Save Yourself I'll Hold Them Back)

Fist First- Ready to fight. A shoot first, questions later sort of sentiment. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola & Hot Chimp)

Flashing- Shooting with a raygun. (Comics; Issue 1)

Flash Rash- Desert disease, possibly a radiation rash. (Comics; Issue 1)

Freedom Riots- Riots of dissenters held within the City limits. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

FTWWW- Fuck this whole wide world. The title of a track from Mad Gear and Missile Kid that's rather popular in the Zones. (The Mad Gearand Missile Kid EP, Twitter; Party Poison)

Futa- Future. (Twitter; Party Poison)

FYW- Fuck your world. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)


G

Generation Nothing- Possibly a reference to the generations of people born and raised in the City under BLI's influence. (Album; Sing)

Get Away Mile- A laymen's term for Route Guano, refrence seems to come from the fact this road is the only one leading out of the City making it the only way for someone to 'get away'. (Album; Bulletproof Heart)

Ghosted- One of the four acceptable levels of being dead. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report)

Ghost Cast- Broadcast. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Ghost Station- Places used by the desert DJs as safe spots for their broadcasts. (Comics; Issue 2)

Graffiti They Write On Your Grave- Possibly means they things that are said about you or what you are remembered for after death. Could be taken in a literal sense as the people in the Zones are known for leaving graffiti to expression feelings and the Mailbox is shown with painted messages for the dead. (Album; Save Yourself I'll Hold Them Back)

Green Smoke- Poisoned air. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)


H

Helium War- The war that 'ended' the world. Bombs dropped during this war seemed to have destroyed Australia and Texas. BLI rose to power as the war came to an end. Dr. Death was injured in this war. ('Art is a Weapon' trailer, Twitter; Dr. Death Defying, Dr. Death Defying's Listening Party)

High Sign- High five. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Hit the Red Line- Running away. Sometimes shorted to just hit the red. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report, Comics; Issue 1)

Hypno High- A brand of juice or soda. (Comics; Issue 3)


I

Incomings- Possibly means bombs as in the explosive is incoming. (Twitter; Tommy Chow Mein)

Individual- Always capitalized, refers to a raygun produced in the City. BLI issued guns. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Insufficient Seasoning- Possibly code for 'low on supplies'. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)


J

Jazzy- Cool. (Comics; Issue 1)

Joy Drip- Seems to be a reference to drugs of the IV kind. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Juicey- Powerful or a good feeling. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Juvee Hall- Seems to be a reference for dissenters still within the City. (Album; Na Na Na)


K

Kandi City- Possibly a brand name in the Zones, never used in canon proper as it was only a suggestion in the concept stage. (Gerard Way's video concept art)

Keep Running- Possibly just a sign off or way of saying goodbye, referencing that people in the Zones must keep on the move to avoid being caught. (Literally written on everything to come out of this universe)

Kick a Wave- Contact someone, usually referring to someone specific. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Kicking Up Dust- Possibly means to keep surviving or to keep fighting. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Killologist- Another term for exterminators, seems to indicate a high kill count. (Comics; Issue 2)


L

Laser Beam- Reference to the rayguns/blasters used as the primary weapon in this universe. (Album; Bulletproof Heart)

Lights Out- An end of something. (Album; Goodnight Dr. Death)

Liver Missile- Alcohol. (Dr. Death Defying's Listening Party)

Look Alive- A greeting. (Comics; Issue 1 & 6, Mvs; Na Na Na, Album; Look Alive Sunshine)

M

Machiavelli Syndrome- Another reference to poisoned air sickness. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)

Mask Up- Put your mask on, hide your identity. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Medusa’s Motorbike- Something fast, indicates death. Ex. "As fast as Medusa's motorbike". (Comics; Issue 1)

Microbursts- Small stuff, used in the same context. Ex. 'Don't sweat the microbursts'. (Comics; Issue 4)

Microchips- Persons good with technology. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Milkshake- Cool, good. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Modern Exterminator- Name of a magazine in the Zone. (MVs; Na Na Na, 'Art is a Weapon' trailer)

Mom and Dad Are Coming Home- Code for incoming BLI's forces. (Comics; Issue 1)

Monkey King- Possibly another term for a fighter. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Motherbox- Motherfucker, possibly used affectionately. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Motorbaby- Catchall term for those in the Zones, possibly a reference to younger runners. (Album; Look Alive Sunshine, Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Motorgoblins- Another catchall term for people in the Zones, possibly a reference for younger runners. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

MouseKat- Old BLI produced cartoon, a favorite of Killjoy’s leader Party Poison. MK memorabilia is still readily available in the Zones. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Mouth Machine- Boom box. (Comics; Issue 1)

Murder- A magazine available in the Zones. (MVs; Na Na Na)

Murder Wizard- Zone term for a good fighter. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)


N

Neon Ghostslingers- A series of video games still played in the Zones. Goes up to 8. (Comics; Issue 1)

Neptune Pop- A brand of juice or soda. (Comics; Issue 3)

Neutral Gear- Possibly a way to say to calm down or relax. (Dr. Death Defying's Listening Party)

Nitros- Type of pill, drugs. Also a reference to gasoline. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)


O

Old Bay Seasoning- Reference to poisoned air sickness, used in context as a name of disease. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)

Overloaded- Excited, emotional. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)


P

Party's Over- The end of something. (Album; Goodnight Dr. Death)

Phoenix Witch- Mythological figure of the desert. The Witch leads the dead on to the afterlife if a possession close to their soul is left at one of her mailboxes. She also sends on letters and gifts to the dearly departed. She seems to have a role in bringing people back from a level of death, as seen in the comics. (Comics; All issues)

Pig- Police, seems to be a reference to BLI's guards within context. (Album; Look Alive, Sunshine & Bulletproof Heart)

Pig Bomb- Either a reference to an actual bomb or a reference to an event happening in 2017 that involved BLI's police force. Possibly a weapon made from the police, as described as having 'skin'. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Pixelated- One of the acceptable levels of dead. (Comics; Issue 1)

Playing the Newly Wed Game- Possibly a reference to sex acts. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Plus- A device that extends battery life for androids. It's considered addictive and overusing plus will destroy an android. (Comics; Issue 1)

Plus One- Good, cool, better. (Comics; Issue 3)

Polka Dotty/ Polka Dottie- Dangerous. (Comics; Issue 1, Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Porno Droid- Another term for a companion android, made for the purpose of prostitution. Come in several colors of which depends on the price and activities they are built for. (Comics; Issue 3)

Powder Brown- Referring to dust or dirt. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Power Pup- Brand of dog food, nutritious and a favorite of zone runners everywhere. (MVs; Na Na Na)

PTTP- A brand of transmission devices, seems to be for televised transmissions. (MCR's Homepage during the DD era)

Puritan Blaster- Another name for rayguns. (Comics; Issue 1)


Q

Quad Nil- Possibly a place within the Zones, seems to be a place for supply drops/trades. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)


R

Rabies- Possibly used to mean dangerous. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Rash Out- Possibly meaning to lash out. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Resurrection Road- Possibly another reference to Route Guano or another road within the Zones. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)

Ritalin Rat- Seems to be a reference to dissenters within the City, most likely those still addicted to or taking BLI approved drugs. (Album; Na Na Na)

Rotation- Month. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Route Guano- Also known as Get Away Mile. The long road from Battery City that stretches through all the zones. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report, Comics; Issue 5)

Rubber Burner- Fast driver. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)


S

S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W- Most often written simply as Scarecrow, Scarecrow Unti, or Crows. BLI mooks. Higher than the Dracs but subordinate to the exterminators. Seem to be considered more dangerous than Draculoids and likely still have some mental capacities that the Dracs do not (ability to speak, think, remove their masks, ect). (Album; S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W)

Save the Gasoline- Seems to mean to stay put or in one place, not to do something. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Save Your Salt- Don't cry. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Shields- Possibly referring to leathers. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Shiny- Cool, good. Shiny is also a popular magazine in the zones that the Killjoys have been in a few times. (Album,; Look Alive, Sunshine, MVs; Na Na Na, Twitter; NewsAGoGo & Dr. Death Defying)

Shiver Shakes- Referring to being ill. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Slam Chasers- Some kind of drink, possibly alcoholic. Served at Hyper-Thrusts (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Slaughtermatic- Good, cool, heavy. Used in reference to music. (Album; Look Alive, Sunshine, Twitter; NewsAGoGo, Comics; Issue 1)

Slinger- Possibly meant for a gun slinger, someone who fights/shoots. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)

Static- Radio broadcast (Comics). Also seems to be a reference to boredom or madness within the desert (Album). Referenced also as the noise from the BLI issued headphones or the sounds fed to/from the Scarecrows for brainwashing purposes (Twitter). (Comics; Issue 1, Album; Goodnight Dr. Death, Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Subatomic- Possibly a reference to the bombs that destroyed most of society during the first wars. (Album; Party Poison)

Sub Scorch- Possibly high temperatures. (Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Supa Stinga Demolition- Possibly a brand name in the Zones, a version of the logo is seen on Fun Ghoul's shirt sleeve. (Gerard Way's video concept art, MV; Na Na Na & Sing)


T

Tech-brains- Persons good with technology. (Comics, Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Terminally- Used in the same manner as 'especially'. (Twitter; Party Poison)

Tits- A word outlawed as an insult within the City in May of 2016. (Twitter; Gary Levko)

Thrill Killers- Possibly a term for fighters in the Zones, seems to indicate people who enjoy fighting BLI's forces or purposely seek out fights. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying)

Towers- Buildings that serve as BLI workspaces in the City. (Twitter; Gary Levko)

Traffic Report- Broadcast from one of the Zone DJs, possibly only from Dr. Death Defying, that tells of news from the Zones. Death reports, Draculoid/Scarecrow sightings, news about where supply trades have been set up. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report)

Tumbleweed- Wanderer, person in the Zones. (Album; Jet Star and Kobra Kid/Traffic Report)

Undergrads- Seems to reference people who have left the City but not taken names or colors yet. (Comics; Issue 1)

Vapor Filter- Possible reference to rebreathers/gas masks. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)

Vice Tab- Possibly some kind of sleeping pill. (Twitter; NewsAGoGo)


W

Wave Head- Radiation addicts. It's implied Cherri Cola was once one. (Comics; Issue 3, Twitter; Agent Cherri Cola)

Wasteland- Referring to the Zones, mostly seems to be referring to Zone 6. (Dr. Death Defying's Listening Party)

When the Sun Goes Black- Reference to the end of the world, to death and the afterlife. (Album; The Kids From Yesterday)

White Suits/Whites- BLI's police. (Twitter; Dr. Death Defying, Comics; Issue 1)

WKIL- Dr. D’s radio station. (MVs; Na Na Na, Danger Days Merchandise, Gerard Way's video concept art)
